Blessed with what the New York Times described as a "beautiful countertenor," singer ART GARFUNKEL has made an indelible mark on the music world with 11 highly-acclaimed albums and as half of the legendary Simon & Garfunkel. Due to phenomenal demand and extra date has been added on October 4th. Tickets are €59.80 on sale now through Ticketmaster and other usual outlets nationwide. Booking Line: 0818 719 390.
In 2003, GARFUNKEL reunited with partner, Paul Simon for the highly successful "Old Friends" reunion tour which received rave reviews worldwide. GARFUNKEL has also enjoyed a successful film career, published a book of poetry and is a songwriter and member of a singer/songwriter trio. That trio--with Maia Sharp and Buddy Mondlock--released their EVERYTHING WAITS TO BE NOTICED album in 2002 to critical acclaim, and toured the US and Europe.
GARFUNKEL was originally revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping music with fellow Queens, NY native Paul Simon. Their greatest hits collection, which includes "Mrs. Robinson," "Scarborough Fair," "The Sound Of Silence," "The Boxer" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water," among others, is the biggest selling album ever by a duo. Their body of work earned them the Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award" and induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
After Simon & Garfunkel parted ways in 1970, GARFUNKEL landed several major film roles, including "Carnal Knowledge" (opposite Jack Nicholson), "Catch 22" and Nicholas Roeg's "Bad Timing/A Sensual Obsession." His solo debut ANGEL CLARE spawned the top 10 hit "All I Know." His other solo albums include BREAKAWAY (‘75; features the hit "I Only Have Eyes For You"), WATERMARK (‘78; featuring "[What A] Wonderful World" with James Taylor and Paul Simon), FATE FOR BREAKFAST (‘79), SCISSORS CUT (‘81), THE ANIMALS' CHRISTMAS (‘86), LEFTY (‘88), GARFUNKEL (greatest hits, ‘88), UP TILL NOW (‘93), ACROSS AMERICA (‘97) and SONGS FROM A PARENT TO A CHILD (‘97).
Art Garfunkel released his 12th solo album, Some Enchanted Evening in January 2007. The CD is a musical celebration of material from the 20th century's greatest songwriters, including Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Antonio Carlos Jobim and George Gershwin. "I've been loving this stuff all my life," Art says. The album is the organic next chapter in Art's life, as he reflects on fatherhood and the chaotic world we live in: "In this nervous world I want to soothe. It's a great time for moderation, for thoughtfulness, for dialogue, for the great Exhale, for humor. A great time for a sweet sound, a visceral, charming, prayerful sound."
GARFUNKEL earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia College, majoring in Art History; later he earned his Masters degree in Architecture at Columbia University. He lives in New York City with his wife Kim, his 15-year-old son James--both of whom occasionally join him on-stage--and an infant son, Beau Daniel, born in 2005. "I'm a singer trying to get away with a lucky job. I try to soothe, to lift...That's my life."
Art Garfunkel live @ Vicar St. October 3rd & 4th. Tickets are €59.80 on sale now through Ticketmaster and other usual outlets nationwide.
